FAQ

Common questions about scope, engines, and how commissions run.

How do you charge?

£30 per hour (GBP). New commissions usually start at a £120 minimum. I quote hours before production starts. See the Pricing page for examples.

How do I pay?

After we agree the Scope in your Discord commission channel (title, hours, total), I send a PayPal invoice from mrportz to your email. You can pay with PayPal or card on the invoice. I do not use Friends & Family for commissions.

New jobs may need a deposit before production starts; the rest is due before final delivery files. Exact split is written in the quote and matches the site Terms.

Work-in-progress may be watermarked or low-res until payment conditions in the Scope are met. Final exports and source files (if included) only after the invoice shows paid in full, unless we agreed milestone billing in writing.

Put the job name in the payment note if you use another method we agreed in the channel. I do not publish payment links on this website; they stay in your private commission thread.

UK clients can sometimes pay by bank transfer instead if we agree that in the Scope. Same rule: cleared funds before finals, reference matches the job title.

Why that hourly rate?

I work as a UK freelancer, not on a studio salary. £30/hour is set so I can keep quality and turnaround honest. It is not the same as take-home pay on a 37-hour week.

Your fee pays for production time on your Scope and a share of what it costs to run the business behind that work. I do not itemize these on your invoice, but this is what the rate has to cover:

Labour on your job: modeling, Substance texturing, lookdev, exports, and reasonable project communication.

Professional software, including Adobe Substance and related tools. That stack alone is often around £120/month, whether or not I have an active commission that week.

Hardware: a production PC, peripherals, storage, and upkeep so files and renders stay reliable.

Running the service: this site, commission intake, Discord workflow, quotes, and file handoff.

Tax and National Insurance on self-employed income, plus unpaid time between paid jobs when those costs still land.

The £120 minimum on new work helps cover briefing and pipeline setup on smaller scopes so they stay worth taking on. If your budget is tight, say so in the brief. We can scope down, not sneak in a discount after the fact.

Why commission you when cheap props exist online?

You absolutely can grab a £5 pack, a marketplace kit, or a race-to-the-bottom Fiverr listing. For a lot of projects that is the right call, especially greybox, placeholders, or background clutter where nobody will look closely.

You come to me when the thing has to match your game or space specifically: your scale, your art direction, your poly budget, your Unity or Unreal setup, your naming, and your references, not a generic asset that is "close enough" after an hour of fixing imports.

Commissions also buy the thread: brief, quote, WIP in Discord, agreed revisions inside the Scope, and files handed off for your pipeline. A £5 download does not owe you that.

I am not trying to beat stock on price. I am the option when "close enough" costs you more time than paying once for something that fits.

Why can jobs take a while?

Hard-surface work needs references, blockouts, modeling, and Substance material passes. I do not rush that pipeline.

Do you sculpt characters or animals?

No. I focus on hard-surface props and environments. No humanoids, creatures, or organic sculpts.

Do you guarantee clean topology or studio-ready meshes?

Mesh quality matches the portfolio and the target we agree (real-time vs render). Studio retopo or subdivision-ready workflows must be scoped explicitly at quote stage.

Can you deliver for Unity or Unreal Engine?

Yes, when we scope it at quote stage. I model in Blender, texture in Substance, and export meshes and textures for your target (Unity or Unreal). Share poly budget, scale, and how you want materials set up.

Can you deliver for VR or other real-time targets?

Yes, if the brief needs it. Same pipeline: agree engine, budget, and formats up front.

How do I start a commission?

Use Commissions on this site. Connect Discord, submit a brief, and a private channel opens for quotes, files, and chat.

How many jobs at once?

One active commission. Extra approved jobs go on the queue in order. Active and queue are listed on the home and Commissions pages.

Do I need a website account?

No. You connect Discord so I can open a channel for you. The site only starts the job; messages and files stay in Discord. See Privacy for what the site stores.
